Updates for lilyseed.com

Update: December 13, 2005 - Coastal Northern California
Been awhile since last update. So busy!

Discovered a stand of Lilium washingtonianum subsp. washingtonianum while looking for Lilium humboldtii. So able to offer a few seeds this season.

Collected many nice seeds from Lilium speciosum var. rubrum. I also crossed L. speciosum var. rubrum with L. speciosum var. album. Should get some nice pinks with spots, or possibly a white with spots from this cross. Seeds!

The Lilium lijiangense did not set very much seed! Maybe next year.

Update: May 23, 2005 - Coastal Northern California
Lilium pardalinum and it's hybrids are about to bloom.

The 89PR x Lilium rubescens, ((L. pardalinum x L. rubescens) x L. rubescens) seedlings are showing hybrid vigor. Putting up a stalk, insted of two leaves, in this second growing season. I may get a bloom or two next year! These were planted in August of 2003, as soon as the seed was ripe.

The Lilium lijiangense are doing exceptionally well. I expect plenty of seed this fall.

Update: October 11, 2004 - Coastal Northern California
All lilies are finished blooming. Sigh!
I'm waiting (im)patiently for the Oriental species lilies, Lilium speciosum var. rubrum and Lilium auratum var. platyphyllum, seed pods to mature. I'm eager to see how well the seed has set. The L. auratum var. platyphyllum seed pods are huge! I took a photo, hopefully it won't be too long before I get it in the “Gallery” so you can see it as well. (Note: the “Gallery” page doesn't exist yet)

lilyseed.com is going through some changes. I'm putting it up partially finished, though all the links and etc. should work. I will be including an image gallery and more descriptions of lilies along and along.

Update: August 26, 2004 - Coastal Northern California
The weather is cooling off a bit. I can feel Fall in the air. Only Lilium speciosum var. rubrum is still blooming. It has a wonderful sweet vanilla scent. I'm attempting to get seed form the L. speciosum var. rubrum. Fingers crossed!
The west coast native species seed is mature and being harvested. The Oriental hybrid seed pods are still developing.
Not as much Lilium martagon hybrid seed developed as I had hoped. Still I will offer a small amount for sale.

Lilium bolanderi seed available now!
Lilium pardalinum seed available now!
Lilium parvum seed available now!
Lilium rubescens seed available now!
Lilium shastense seed available now!
Lilium washingtonianum seed available now!
Lilium wigginsii seed available now!

Update: July 22, 2004 - Coastal Northern California
Very warm weather we've been having here lately. Good for drying the native west coast Lilium seed pods but not so good for the Oriental Hybrids (they seem to like it best below 90 degrees).

Lilium rubescens seed available now!

Update: July 4, 2004 - Coastal Northern California
L. rubescens and L. washingtonianum seed should be available this fall.

Update: May 25, 2004 - Coastal Northern California
The West Coast Natives are about to bloom. These include L. rubescens, L. pardalinum, and the L. pardalinum x L. rubescens.
The baby (L. pardalinum x L. rubescens) x L. rubescens are doing well. It looks as though I may have blooms in a couple years. The other adult and baby hybrids and species are doing well. The West Coast Natives that are doing best are the ones I planted as soon as the seed was ripe.

I'm attempting to take pictures of all the species and hybrids that bloom in my garden this year. A big project. I need a digital camera!

Update: March 15, 2004 - Coastal Northern California
Most of the West Coast native species hybrid seed I planted last fall are up and growing (some of the seeds are from David Sims’ Ribbon Nursery). Interesting: The seeds I planted outside in July came up first! The ones planted in August are a close second, and the ones planted in October are still thinking about it, but have little bulbs developed.
The (L. pardalinum x L. rubescens) x L. rubescens seedlings are doing well.

We've had unseasonably warm weather this last week. All the Orientals and Asiatics are starting to show through the ground. I like this time of year almost as much as blooming time!

Special note for all you Lilium martagon lovers:
I ordered some L. martagon ‘Dalhansonii’, ‘Port Wine’, ‘Claude Shride’, and ‘Sarcee’ bulbs from Klehm Song Sparrow (listed under: “shade perennials” in their catalog). The bulbs arrived last week in half gallon containers (they had roots!). I am extremely impressed with the quality and size of the bulbs they sent me. The Dalhansonii stalk has been growing about 1/2 inch a day! You can almost see it move. If it keeps going it should get to full blooming size this year! There were also a few sprouted seeds in the pots the bulbs came in. An interesting mystery, of course I will grow them to blooming size to see what they are.
